Civil CAD Designer/Drafter
Betancourt Engineering & Consulting (BEC) is seeking a motivated Civil CAD Designer / Drafter to join our growing team in South Florida. In this role, you will work directly alongside Project Engineers and Project Managers to create detailed civil engineering plan sets, site layouts, utility profiles, and land development exhibits.

Core Responsibilities:
Plan Production & Technical Drafting
Draft high quality commercial and residential engineering plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including land development plans, utility profiles, zoning layouts, conceptual sketches, and project exhibits.
Utilize third party software tools (such as AutoTURN, DM Photometrics, etc.) to generate drawings and specialized project visuals.
Obtain and integrate GIS site imagery and spatial data into project base drawings.
Project Coordination & Execution
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Engineers to understand project scope, schedule, budget, and specific drafting instructions.
Complete drawing deliverables within established timelines and budgets while maintaining strict quality control for completeness and accuracy.
Assist team members with project requirements and offer drafting support during peak schedule demands.
Data Management & CAD Standards
Organize and maintain all project drawing revisions, plot files, and technical information in a logical, structured folder system.
Apply consistent CAD standards, layer management, scale settings, pen tables, viewports, cross sections, and drawing profiles.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma, Technical Certificate, Associate Degree, or related education in Computer Drafting and Design.
3 or more years of hands on CAD experience in a civil engineering production environment or closely related field.
Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, with specific production experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Mastery of CAD drawing principles, including layer structures, viewports, text and dimension scaling, cross sections, profiles, and plot scales.
Proficiency in Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail while maintaining a consistent design workflow.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet project deadlines, and work overtime when required to achieve deliverables.
Capability to work under minimal supervision and resolve technical drafting challenges independently based on company and project standards.
Willingness to expand technical knowledge, learn new software tools, and step up into increased responsibilities over time.
Excellent communication skills and a team first mindset to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Desired Skills & Preferred Knowledge
Experience with grading design and surface modeling in Civil 3D.

Entry Level Civil Engineer (0-5 Years Experience)

Core Responsibilities:
Design & Technical Modeling
Assist in the preparation of detailed civil engineering design plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D for multi family residential, commercial, and municipal developments.
Perform basic engineering calculations for stormwater management, surface drainage, earthwork quantities, water distribution, and sanitary sewer collection systems.
Help develop site layouts, utility profiles, grading plans, and paving details in accordance with applicable code requirements and client standards.
Permitting & Agency Coordination
Assist project managers in preparing permit submittal packages for local municipalities, county environmental agencies, and regional water management districts.
Research municipal zoning codes, land development regulations, and agency guidelines to ensure design compliance.
Help track review status, coordinate comments, and assemble technical documentation required to secure project approvals.
Project Support & Field Observation
Collaborate closely with team members to keep project schedules, deliverables, and budgets on track.
Perform site visits and field observations under senior guidance to review ongoing construction progress and compliance with approved plans.
Organize project files, calculations, and correspondence in a structured, logical manner.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Certifications: E.I.T. / Engineer Intern (E.I.) certification preferred or actively preparing to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Basic exposure to or working knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

This position is tailored for an engineer ready to step into leadership, taking on increased responsibility for client communication, project delivery, team coordination, and agency permitting.
In this role, you will work directly alongside Principal Leadership to manage site development projects through their complete lifecycle. You will serve as a key point of contact for clients, oversee plan production with design engineers and CAD drafters, and navigate complex regulatory approvals across South Florida municipalities and environmental agencies.
Core Responsibilities:
Project Oversight & Client Advocacy
Assist in managing commercial, residential, utility, and municipal land development projects from initial feasibility through final construction closeout.
Maintain direct, transparent communication with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and municipal officials to keep projects moving forward smoothly.
Track project schedules, scope requirements, and deliverables to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
Design Management & Quality Control
Guide and review the work of design engineers and CAD drafters to ensure plan sets are accurate, complete, and aligned with client goals.
Oversee site layouts, earthwork modeling, water distribution networks, sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater management designs.
Perform quality control reviews of engineering calculations, reports, and plan sets prior to agency submittals.
Regulatory Permitting & Agency Coordination
Prepare, submit, and track permit applications through local municipalities, county environmental control boards, and regional water management districts.
Attend agency review meetings, coordinate technical comments, and present solutions to secure timely project approvals.
Stay current on local zoning codes, land development regulations, and environmental compliance requirements across South Florida.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Licensure: Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred, or an Engineer Intern (E.I.) actively pursuing PE licensure.
Experience: 4 to 7 years of progressive civil engineering experience in land development, site design, and utility infrastructure production.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for land development design.
Experience with hydrology and hydraulics modeling software (such as StormCAD, ICPR, and Hydraflow).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
